YORK, PA – York College Assistant Dean of
Athletics and Recreation Sean Sullivan has
recently announced that Ryan Weber has been named
the men’s tennis head coach beginning in the 2009-2010
academic year. Weber replaces Mark Ludwig, who
spent 11 seasons at the helm of the men’s program and will
remain the Spartans’ men’s soccer coach.
Weber is no stranger to Spartan tennis. After playing four seasons
on the men’s side, Weber took over York’s women’s
tennis program two years ago. During his tenure, the Green and
White have seen steady improvement as the squad has strived to
build a solid foundation for future success.
“Ryan has impressed all of us within the athletic department
with his professionalism, approachable nature and fine
instructional skills,” Sullivan said. “Ryan’s
expertise and strong knowledge of the men's game will help not only
maintain this high level of play but perhaps elevate it. The
department is thrilled to offer him this additional
responsibility.”
Now at the reigns of the men’s program, Weber inherits a
squad that is becoming one of the better teams in the region. The
Spartans finished last year with a 10-8 mark, including a 4-2 mark
in the CAC. Over the past two seasons, the Green and White have
accumulated a record of 25-13 and landed four players on the
All-CAC squad.
“I'd like to thank Sean Sullivan and the York College
administration for the opportunity to be the head coach the men's
tennis team here at York College,” states Weber. “I
will work hard to keep the men's program at the level it has
attained in the past five years under the direction of Coach Ludwig
and to take the team to the next level and become a true force in
DIII tennis in the future. With a strong group of returning
players from last year’s squad and some promising incoming
athletes, I believe we can achieve that goal. Helping Coach
Ludwig with the men's team the past three years has been a greatly
rewarding and educational experience and I am grateful for the
chance to be the head coach for a tremendous group of hard working
athletes.”
Weber begins his men’s duties immediately as the Spartans
will begin their fall program in early
September.
