YORK, PA – The York College men’s tennis team dropped their second match of the weekend as Division III powerhouse Washington College (Md.) downed the Spartans 8-1 in a non-conference contest on Sunday. It was a rough weekend for the Spartans as York dropped a 5-4 decision to another perennial power in Mary Washington on Saturday.
The Spartans are now 3-5 overall while the Shoremen improve to 4-3 for the year.
The Spartans picked up their lone win in the first doubles match as Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) combined to notch an 8-3 win. The Shoremen recorded an 8-4 win in second doubles and an 8-3 win in the third doubles to take a 2-1 lead after the the three doubles matches.
The singles matches were all Washington as the Shoremen captured all six match ups in straight sets. Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) forced a first set tiebreaker but then fell in the second set 6-0 in the fourth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon when they host
Alvernia College in a non-conference match up. The match is slated
to begin at 4:30 pm in York.
