STEVENSON, MD – The York College
men’s tennis squad took their first Capital Athletic
Conference match of 2009 with a clean sweep 9-0 victory over
Stevenson University Tuesday afternoon. The visiting Spartans up
their season mark to an even 3-3 (1-0 CAC) while the Mustangs drop
their first match of the spring and fall to 0-1 (0-1 CAC).
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea
Valley) secured his fourth win of the season as the
Spartans’ #1 singles player. The senior bested Ryan Morse by
a comfortable 6-0, 6-1 margin.
Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop
Shanahan) and Joel Trimmer (Hanover,
Pa./Hanover) notched victories in the #2 and #3 singles
slots. Graci’s fourth win came via a tough 7-5, 6-2 triumph
while Trimmer topped Korey Garner 6-3, 6-2 to even his personal
singles record at 3-3.
The Spartans’ #4 singles player,
Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury), posted
a flawless 6-0, 6-0 triumph as he joins Trimmer with a 3-3 2009
mark. Jeff Mansfield (Bartonsville, Pa./North
Harford) backed up Collison’s win with one of his
own in the fifth slot. Mansfield bested Ben Petasky 6-3, 6-2.
Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg,
Pa./Pocono Mountain East), fresh off his recent CAC Player
of the Week honors, continued his solid play as the Spartans’
#6 singles player with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Klein, who has won three
consecutive matches, currently owns a 5-1 record for 2009.
Just as with singles play, the Green and White
procured each of the three doubles matches by comfortable margins.
Mowrer paired with Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red
Lion) at #1 to record an 8-2 victory. That win evens the
duo’s 2009 mark to 3-3.
Trimmer and Mansfield posted an 8-3 victory at
#2 doubles while Klein and Ryan Harvey (Fallston,
Md./Fallston) triumphed at third doubles, 8-3.
The Green and White are now slated to face
Gettysburg on Friday, March 19. Start time in Gettysburg is
scheduled for 3:30.
