Mercyhurst Tops Spartans Final Hilton Head Match
HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College men's tennis
team dropped the final match of their 2009 trip to Hilton Head,
S.C. by a 6-3 result at the hands of Mercyhurst. The Spartans
complete their season-opening excursion with a record of 2-3 while
the Lakers bump up their mark to an impressive 9-3.
Junior Paul Graci (Exton,
Pa./Bishop Shanahan) picked up one of York's three wins in
his #2 singles match. Graci, a 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference
selection, improved to 3-2 on the year with a 6-2, 6-7 (4-7), 10-5
victory.
Sophomore Travis Klein (East
Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) continued his
torrid play to begin the year winning yet another match in the
Spartans' sixth slot. Klein bested Alfredo Mortensen in straight
sets, 6-0, 6-0, as he ups his season mark to a solid 4-1.
In doubles action, Graci paired with
junior Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury)
as York's #3 duo. The two juniors topped Mortensen and Adam Marnick
by an 8-3 count.
The Green and White now return home
for their next match of the 2009 campaign, their first on York's
campus. The Spartans are slated to face the McDaniel Green Terror
on Friday, March 13, in a 3:00 pm non-conference tilt.
