YORK, PA- The York College men’s tennis team saw their eight-match win streak come to an end as #8 Mary Washington defeated the Spartans 8-1 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Tuesday afternoon in York. The Eagles improve 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the CAC while York falls to 8-2 and 1-1 in the conference.
The Eagles captured all three doubles matches but the green and white made them close contests. The first doubles score was 8-5, the second was 8-6 and the third doubles match was also 8-5.
Mary Washington captured the first three singles matches in straight sets. Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) extended Bryan Parrish to a super tiebreaker before falling 10-8 in the fourth singles match. Senior Ron Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick) picked up York’s lone victory in the fifth singles match as he posted a 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 win for York. The sixth singles match also went to the super tiebreaker as Jon Proffitt edged Josh Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) in the match.
The Spartans return to action on Wednesday as they host Messiah College in a non-conference contest. Game time in York is set for 3:30 pm.
