YORK, PA- The York College men’s tennis team rolled to their fifth straight 9-0 victory as the Spartans blanked the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in the Spartans 2008 home opener on a breezy Wednesday afternoon in York.
The Spartans won four of the six singles matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) at second singles, Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) at fourth singles, Ron Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick) at fifth singles, and Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) at sixth singles all won their matches without dropping a game. In first singles, Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Rashad James. Ryan Fickes (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in the third singles match for the green and white.
In doubles action, the Spartans won all three matches via shutout. Fickes and Ho teamed up to win the number one doubles match. Mowrer and Trimmer recorded the second doubles win while Josh Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) teamed up to win the third doubles contest.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday, March 11 when they host Gettysburg in a non-conference contest in York. The action kicks off at 3:30 pm.
