HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College men’s tennis team swept the second match of their annual trip to Hilton Head, SC Monday morning dropping Notre Dame College 9-0. The Spartans improve to 1-1 on the season while Notre Dame slips to 0-3.
York’s Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) won his first match of his junior campaign, earning the 6-0, 6-1 win over Alex Godes in the number one slot. Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) moved to 2-0 on the year winning his second close match of the young season 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
The rest of the Spartans’ singles matches were dominant victories. Ryan Fickes (York, Pa./Dallastown) blanked Kyle Roche 6-0, 6-0 while Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) won 6-2, 6-1 over Andrew Sherman. Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) swept Jonathan Morris in two 6-0 sets and Ron Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick) capped the singles sweep winning 6-1, 6-1 over Daniel Kessler.
The green and white also took all three doubles matches. In first doubles, Fickes and Ho had the closest match winning 8-4. Mowrer and Trimmer won 8-1 while Josh Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) earned the 8-1 victory.
The Spartans are back in action tomorrow with a pair of matches. York starts off early with an 8:00 am date with Adrian College then kick off the night cap at 6:00 pm against Capital University.
