HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College men's tennis team picked up their third consecutive win Wednesday evening with a 9-0 victory over Capital University in Hilton Head, SC. The Spartans move to 3-1 on the season while Capital falls to 0-2. York has now won 27 matches in a row, winning their previous two contests each by 9-0 tallies.
Unlike the Spartans' previous sweeps, the green and white had to battle in several matches in order to secure the team victory. Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) defeated Max Hoff 6-4, 7-5 in first singles and Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) continued his season-opening winning streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win in the second slot.
Ryan Fickes (York, Pa./Dallastown) proceeded to grab third singles 6-1, 7-5 while Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) notched a win a number four 6-3, 6-3.
Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) and Ron Ho (Frederick, Md./Frederick) took care of the fifth and sixth flights winning handily 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively.
In doubles action, Fickes and Ho fought off Capital's Hoff and Mark Seitz to seize the 8-6 first slot victory. The second and third flights proved easier for the Spartan side as Josh Kulp (Souderton, Pa./Homeschooled) and Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) paired for the 8-2 victory in second doubles while Collison and Graci won 8-1 in the third spot.
York plays their fifth and final match of their winter break trip to Hilton Head, Thursday against St. John Fisher. The first match is set to commence at 12:00 pm.
