DOVER, DE - The York College men’s tennis team picked up yet another 9-0 win Tuesday afternoon over Wesley College. The Spartans improve on their strong 2008 mark and move to 14-3 (4-2 CAC) while Wesley drops to 2-5 (1-4 CAC).
The green and white easily swept through the singles matches save for the number two slot. Paul Graci (Exton, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) won the first set 6-0, but then fell 1-6 in the second. Graci then captured a 10-4 victory in the third set to secure his 14th win of the season.
Tim Mowrer (Gordonville, Pa./Pequea Valley) continued his consistent play at the number one position not dropping a game in his 6-0, 6-0 victory. Mowrer is now 15-2 for his junior campaign. Joel Trimmer (Hanover, Pa./Hanover) also won 6-0, 6-0 in the third flight as his 2008 mark now stands at 13-3. Steve Collison (Westville, N.J./Woodbury) earned the team point for the Spartans in fourth singles with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Andrew Smyth. In the fifth flight, Braxton Koppelman (Alexandria, Va./Annandale) won 6-2, 6-1 for his victory while freshman Travis Klein (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) picked up his first collegiate victory with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the sixth slot.
In doubles play, Koppelman teamed with Colin Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) for the first flight victory 8-4. Graci and Collison then took the second slot 8-2 while Patrick McKee (York, Pa./York Catholic) and Shawn Holzmann (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook) captured third doubles 8-1.
The Spartans return to action this Saturday, April 12, as they travel to Dickinson for a 10:30 am tilt with the Red Devils.
