400 Medley Record Falls as Men Sit Second at Championships
ST. MARY'S CITY, Md- The York College men's swim team started the CAC Championships on the right note with a new school-record. The three-day championship will feature plenty of action throughout the weekend.
To close up the competition on the first night, the Spartan men were able to make history. The team of Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J. / Pompton Lakes), Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Ca. / Rio Mesa), Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del. / WIlliam Penn), and Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa. / Ridley) was able to break the 400 medley relay school record. The team finished second with a time of 3:30.03 to make history. The third place team from St. Mary's finished over three seconds behind the Spartan record-setters. Also contested in the relays, for Friday evening, was the 200 free relay. The Spartan team was able to take a close third place finish that was just four tenths behind second place.
In the 500 free, Latchford was a 8th place finisher. The junior finished in a time of 4:58.89 to secure the points for York. Then in the 200 IM Stoll was able to swim an incredible last turn to secure his time of 2:02.46 for a 7th place finish. Bonner was able to wrap up the individual events with a 5th place swim in the 500 free. Finishing in a time of 21.72, Bonner was just four hundredths of a second off from the 4th place finisher.
The Spartans capped the first day of competition with 146 points to sit them in second. The men will look to hold off the teams from St. Mary's and Marymount as the weekend wears on through Saturday and Sunday evening. Live results for the CAC Championships will continue to run at this link.
