Spartan Men Conclude Regular Season at Ursinus
COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The York College men's swim team closed out their 2013-14 regular season with a 109-90 setback against Ursinus College on Saturday in Collegeville, PA.
The Spartans close out their regular season campaign with a mark of 8-4-1. Ursinus improves to 5-3 for the campaign.
The Spartans picked up a trio of first place finishes on the day. Junior Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn), and Kyle Walthall (Port Hueneme, Calif./Rio Mesa) each notched individual wins for York.
Bonner won the 100 free in a time of 50.28. Latchford was victorious in the 200 back stroke, recording a time of 2:03.95. Walthall cruised to an impressive and dominant win in the 200 breast stroke with a time of 2:08.18. Walthall's winning time was over 11 seconds better than the second place finisher in the race.
The Spartans' 400 freestyle relay squad of Latchford, Nick Lucash (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville), Bryant Hughes (Middletown, Del./Caravel Academy), and Bonner rolled to the win as they combined to post a time of 3:21.32.
The Spartans recorded four individual second place finishes in the meet. Hughes, Wynne Kirchner (Elkridge, Md./Howard), Russell Stoll (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes), and Donald Timmerman (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) each recorded runner-up finishes for York.
Hughes finished second in the 50 free with a time of 22.80, just .8 seconds back of the event winner. Kirchner recorded a second place finish in the 400 IM as he touched the wall in a time of 4:58.19.
Stoll was the runner-up in the 200 butterfly as the freshman recorded a time of 2:09.18. Timmerman was second in the 200 breast stroke, notching a time of 2:19.98.
The Spartans return to the pool on Friday, February 21 when they travel to the Capital Athletic Conference championships hosted by St. Mary's College. The three-day championships kick off Friday morning and conclude on Sunday, February 23.
