FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Kyle Walthall (Port Huereme, Ca./Rio Mesa) is now the York College men's swimming record holder for both the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke. Despite Walthall's impressive performance the Spartans dropped their season opener on the road at Mary Washington.
The Green and White fell to the Eagles 201-61.
Walthall earned a first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 58.88. Later in the meet Walthall once again finished in first place this time in the 200 yard breaststroke swimming 2:14.18.
Sophomore Shane Bonner (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) swam a quality meet. In the 50 yard freestyle Bonner came in third place with a time of 22.31. He then came in third again in the 100 yard freestyle recording a time of 50.58.
Other quality performances included Cody Latchford (New Castle, Del./William Penn) in the 200 yard backstroke and David Altobelli (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake) in the 200 yard IM. Both Spartans finished in third place respectively.
The Green and White swam to a second place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:39.55. The relay included Latchford, Walthall, Bonner and Andy Woods (Dover, Pa./Dover).
The Spartans return to action Saturday afternoon at the York College Natatorium to take on fellow CAC foe Marymount University at 2:00 pm.
