COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The York College men's swimming team fell to host Ursinus College 155-107 on Saturday in Collegeville, Pa. With the defeat, the Spartans (10-3) suffer their first loss since November 12, snapping a streak of seven straight triumphs, while the Bears improve to 5-3 overall.
Freshman Cody Latchford continues his outstanding rookie campaign as he grabbed first in the 200 freestyle. The Spartan newcomer raced to a triumphant 1:50.25 to secure nine first-place points for York. Latchford also collected first in the 100 freestyle where he notched a 50.05.
In the 100 breaststroke, captain Jamie Hicks placed first for the Green and White as he touched the wall in 1:03.89. Joining Latchford, Hicks secured a double of his own as he won the 200 breaststroke. His time of 2:24.41 secured first while teammate Steven Mercer nabbed second with a 2:26.42. Mercer also took the runner-up spot in the 200 IM as he traversed the course in 2:09.19.
Senior Jack Gottschalk placed second in a pair of distance events as he clocked an 11:01.24 in the 1,000 freestyle before registering a 5:22.92 in the 500. Andy Woods also notched two second-place finishes. He notched a 56.98 in the 100 backstroke, followed by a 56.41 in the 100 butterfly.
The Spartans return to action on Monday, January 16, as they host Rowan University in a 5:00 pm non-conference meet.
