Green and White Down PSU-Altoona and Gallaudet in Friday Meet
YORK, Pa – The York College men's swimming team cruised to a pair of victories Friday evening in York besting both Gallaudet University and Penn State-Altoona by scores of 110-90 and 113-69, respectively. With the pair of triumphs, the Spartans improve to a solid 9-2 on the season.
Contributions came for everywhere Friday night as the Green and White secured points from numerous swimmers. The night began with the 400 medley relay, an event in which the Spartans captured first, second, and third. The Spartan crew of Cody Latchford, Steven Mercer, James Kovach, and Alex Diehl captured first with a 3:50.56.
On the individual front, a number of Spartans put together quality finishes including several triumphs.
In the quick sprint which is the 50 freestyle, Kovach claimed first-place with a time of 23.11. Two spots behind him, teammate Jamie Hicks finished his sprint in 23.80.
The Green and White continued the night's success courtesy of Latchford and Bonner, who teamed up to snag first- and second-place points in the 200 individual medley. Latchford's 2:07.50 set the pace in the event while Bonner finished less than a second later at 2:08.21.
The Spartan individual night concluded with the 100 freestyle where again York claimed first and second place. Jack Gottschalk completed his four laps in a time of 50.16 while Tyler Ziegler followed up two seconds later with a 52.16.
In the first individual men's event of the evening, York followed the impressive start by the relay teams, as Aaron Ward and Peter Zientara garnered points in the 1,000 freestyle event. Ward posted a second-place finish with a time of 12:17.20. Zientara followed up seconds later in third place with a time of 12:26.49.
In the next event, the 200 freestyle, Gottschalk and Bryant Hughes repeated the performance of Ward and Zientara finishing second and third, respectively. Gottschalk completed the event in 1:49.98, trailed by Hughes with a 1:57.11.
The Spartan men look to continue their winning ways on Saturday, December 10, as they take on Elizabethtown College at 1:00 in the York College Natatorium.
