GLASSBORO, N.J. – The York College men's swimming team competed at the Rowan Cup on Saturday at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J as the Spartans collected 14 top-five finishes.
Jamie Hicks provided the Green and White with an outstanding showing at the Cup. The junior tallied York's best finish of the day as he recorded a second-place time in the 200 breaststroke. Hicks pierced through the water in 2:22.41 to snag the runner-up time. He would also take third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.68.
York put together quality finishes in both breaststroke events. In the 200, Steve Yeager notched a 2:23.65 to take third while Tyler Ziegler's 2:24.14 placed him fourth. Steven Mercer registered a fifth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:05.87.
In addition to his top-five mark in the 100 breast, Mercer's best finish came in the 400 IM. The talented sophomore swam to a 4:36.57 to capture third in the event.
Senior AJ Bean posted a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke as he touched the wall at 2:05.36.
Andy Woods tallied a pair of top-five times in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly events, respectively. In the 100 back, the sophomore took fourth with a 58.10 and later swam to a fifth-place time in the fly with a 56.28.
Matt Kempel collected fifth in the 200 butterfly with a 2:13.73.
York's relay squads snagged four top-fives during the Rowan Cup, including a pair of third-place times. In both the 200 and 400 medley relays, Bean, Steven Tobin, Woods, and Jack Gottschalk combined for third with 1:43.24 and 3:51.28 times, respectively.
DeCoursey, Woods, Janosky, and Gottschalk would combine in the 200 free relay. The crew swam to a 1:33.15 to take fifth for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Friday, December 3. York is set to host Penn State-Altoona and Gallaudet in a non-conference tri-meet at 6:00 pm from the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center.
