Spartan Men Down Seahawks but Fall to Crusaders and Red Devils
YORK, PA - The York College Men's Swimming team picked up one win as they competed in the quad meet consisting of St. Mary's College, Susquehanna University and Dickinson College. The Green and White defeated St. Mary's 115-90 but had a tough time against Susquehanna and Dickinson as they fell 131-74 and 126-79 respectively. York is now 3-4 overall but boast a 3-1 mark in the Capital Athletic Conference.
The Spartans began the day with a fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay team as the foursome of AJ Bean, Steven Tobin, Andy Woods, and Alex Diehl combined to touch the wall in a time of 3:45.18.
Sophomore Jack Gottschalk then notched a fourth place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle as he clocked in with a time of 10:45.62.
In the 200-freestyle, Steve Yeager placed sixth followed by Diehl who touched the wall seventh. Yeager recorded a time of 1:53.87 while Diehl had a time of 1:55.59.
Senior Benjamin Hilt recorded a fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle as he completed the race in a time of 22.57, just 0.02 seconds out of third and .57 seconds out of first. Thomas DeCoursey finished sixth in the race with a time of 23.11.
The Spartans had a strong showing in the 200-yard IM as sophomore Steven Mercer finished third with a time of 2:04.82. Bean finished fifth with a time of 2:08.08 while Tobin placed eighth.
In the 200-yard butterfly, senior Matt Kempel placed sixth while Hilt notched a fifth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
Bean continued his solid day with a runner-up finish in the 200-backstroke as Jason Adams of Dickinson edged him to the wall. Bean's time in the race was 2:02.90.
Gottschalk picked up York's lone victory of the day as he won the 500-free, recording a two-second win with a time of 5:07.52. Yeager finished fourth with a time of 5:11.09. Yeager later picked up a sixth-place finish in the 200-breaststroke.
York closed out the meet with a third place finish in the 200-free relay as the foursome of Hilt, DeCoursey, Richard Janosky, and Gottschalk recorded a time of 1:30.86.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they travel to Glassboro, NJ to compete in the Rowan Cup at Rowan University.
