YORK, PA - The York College men’s swim team captured a pair of team victories at the St. Mary’s tri-meet Saturday afternoon. The Spartans (5-2, 3-2 CAC) defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe St. Mary’s (1-3, 0-2 CAC) 144.5-59.5 and dismantled Frostburg State (0-4) 165-32.
York picked up six individual wins in addition to a pair of relay victories.
Steven Fulcher (Columbia, Md./Calvert Hall) grabbed York’s first individual win with his 22.18 time in the 50 free. The senior standout also won the 100 backstroke touching in at 55.54. Andrew Demarest (Galloway, N.J./Abesegami) notched his individual victory touching the wall at 4:39.69 in the 400 IM.
The Spartans dominated in the 100-yard events winning four races. In addition to Fulcher’s victory, Clark Arnold (York, Pa./Northeastern) won the 100 butterfly with a 57.41 time. In the 100 free Mike Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck) earned the top spot clocking in at 50.71 while Steve Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit) won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.90.
York’s relay wins came in the 200 medley and the 200 free. The team of Fulcher, Tobin, Ben Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield), and Chris Suehr (North Irwin, Pa./Norwis) grabbed first in the 200 medley with a time of 1:42.66. In the 200 free, Fulcher and Hilt joined Murphy and Matt Jennings (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) to earn the Spartan victory, touching in at 1:31.46.
York also notched eight second place finishes including a pair of relays. Stephen Doemland (Etters, Pa./Red Land) notched two of the second place times clocking in at 11:05.88 in the 1000 free, and then touched the wall at 5:25.72 in the 500 free. AJ Bean picked up his second place finish with 23.58 in the 50 free.
The Spartans return to the pool December 1 when they host a
tri-meet of their own. York will be joined by Goucher and CAC
rival Salisbury as the action starts at 2:00 pm in the York College
