Fulcher Leads Spartans to Second Place Standing After Day One
ST. MARY’S, MD-The York College men’s swim team had a good first day at the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference championships at St. Mary’s College in St. Mary’s City, MD on Friday evening. The Spartans stand second through day one as they have accumulated 160 points. Mary Washington sits in first with 268.5 points while Marymount is third with 130 points in the seven-team field.
The Spartans picked up a pair of wins as senior Steven Fulcher (Columbia, Md./Calvert Hall) factored in both wins. Fulcher was victorious in the 50 free as he touched the wall in a time of 21.32 to earn the first-team All-CAC honor. Fulcher’s time set a new school record for YCP.
Fulcher was then a part of the winning 400 medley relay team as he combined with Steve Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit), Clark Arnold (York, Pa./Northeastern), and Matthew Jennings (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) to post a school record time of 3:34.26.
The 200 free relay squad of Jennings, Arnold, Benjamin Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield), and Fulcher placed second as they combined for a time of 1:26.60.
Other top finishers for the Spartans include Stephen Doemland (Etters, Pa./Red Land) (fifth in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.66) Andrew Demarest (Galloway, N.J./Abesegami) (fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.57), Jennings (eighth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:05.07), and Hilt (eighth in the 50 free with a time of 22.36).
The action resumes on Saturday morning with the Saturday trials at 10:00 am followed by the Saturday finals beginning at 6:00 pm.
