The York College men’s swim squad enters the 2007-08 season with the highest expectations in school history. The Spartans enter the campaign with a dual meet win streak of 18 straight as they have not lost a meet since November of 2006. The green and white return a wealth of talent including seven All-CAC performers, combined with a stellar recruiting class, making the Spartans one of the top teams in the Capital Athletic Conference and the region.
Senior Steve Fulcher, juniors Matt Jennings and Garrett Higgins, and sophomores Steve Doemland and Clark Arnold return to headline a team that is as talented and as deep as any in Spartan school history.
Fulcher is a strong contender for the conference title in both the 50 and 100 freestyle and the 100 and 200 backstroke. Fulcher won the CAC 100 backstroke title as a freshman and a sophomore while he finished last season second in the 50 free. Jennings returns to the lineup looking to defend his 2007 CAC titles in the 100 backstroke and the 100 freestyle. Doemland was another conference winner for the Spartans as he looks to defend his 500 freestyle championship this year. Arnold is another one of the Spartans’ top performers after he finished second in the butterfly at last season’s championships.
Spartan head coach Gina McHenry, a three-time CAC Coach-of-the-Year, is very excited about the potential of this year’s squad.
“Our team goals this year are very simple,” states McHenry. “We want to go undefeated in the regular season, win the Capital Athletic Conference championship, and qualify swimmers for the national championship meet. Each swimmer on our team has a role to play in achieving these team goals. As coaches, we will push them to succeed both individually, and as a team.”
The Spartans open the season on Oct. 27 at Hood College. York opens the home campaign on Nov. 3.
