Spartans Swim Past Mary Washington for First Time in Program History
YORK, Pa. – The York College men's swimming squad began the season in tremendous fashion by becoming only the second school ever in the Capital Athletic Conference to defeat Mary Washington in an in-conference matchup. The Green and White snapped a 22-year losing streak to the Eagles, as they bested visiting Mary Washington 67-55 on Friday evening. The Spartans also play spoiler to the Eagles by breaking their 11-year undefeated CAC run as Mary Washington's last defeat in the CAC was in 2000 when they fell to Catholic University. The Spartans also bested Hood College this evening 98-24.
The Spartans came out with firepower and willingness to win in their season opener have various notable victories in many events. Cody Latchford, Jack Gottschalk, Richard Janosky, Andy Woods, Alex Diehl, and Jamie Hicks proved the key swimmers in today's match combining for nine first-place finishes, three second-place times, and one third-place finish. Individually, Latchford finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.96 and also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.04.

York's 200 medley squad, featuring Latchford, Hicks, Woods, and Janosky, finished with a time of 1:41.30 to win the men's opening event of the 2011-2012 campaign.
