2009-10: In his junior year, Matt swam the 500 and 1650 free and the 400 IM. In the 500 free he swam to a life time best of 5:07.93. In the 1650 he swam to another life time best of 17:49.68. In the 400 IM he swam to yet another life time best of 4:36.72
Personal: Is a sport management major with a minor in marketing ... is the son of Matt and Kim Kempel ... born on April 29, 1989 ... swam for Sho-Men Aquatics on the club level ... was the captain of his high school swimming team ... was a first-team All-Mid-Shore performer as a high school senior ... was a three-time high-point winner prior to college ... lists his parents as the people he most admires ... hobbies include playing or watching sports, hanging out on the Chesapeake Bay ... favorite athlete is Juan Dixon ... chose York because of the sport management program and the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center ... lists his most significant athletic achievement as finishing ninth at the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Championships ... his most memorable athletic moment at York is "swimming with Steve Fulcher as a freshman" ... after graduation he plans on getting a marketing or sales position in sports and obtaining his master's degree in athletic administration.
