Spartans Roll to Big Win at Marymount
ARLINGTON, VA – The York College men’s swim team rolled to a 154-47 Capital Athletic Conference victory at Marymount University in Arlington, VA on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans improve to 2-1 overall and 2-1 in the league while the Saints fall to 0-3 overall and 0-3 in the conference.
The Spartans racked up seven individual first-place finishes while they also won both of the team relay events.
Junior Steve Yeager (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) posted a pair of victories on the day as he won the 200 free and the 500 free. Yeager won the 200 in a time of 1:52.02 while his 500 time was 5:07.12. Sophomore Jack Gottschalk (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) rolled to a victory in the 1000 free, touching the wall in a time of 10:54.23. Junior Ben Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield) cruised to a win the in the 50 free, posting a time of :23.09. Senior Andrew Demarest (Galloway, N.J./Abesegami) won the 200 IM with a mark of 2:08.35.
Freshman Will McLennan (Sparks, Md./Calvert Hall) won the 100 free as he traversed the pool in a time of :50.74. Senior Colin Brown (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) picked up York’s final victory with a win in the 200 breast stroke, notching a time of 2:29.74.
The 400 medley relay team of Hilt, Clark Arnold (York, Pa./Northeastern), Steve Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit), and Richard Janosky (Dover, Pa./Dover) notched a win as the foursome combined for a time of 3:51.05.
The 400 free relay squad of McLennan, Gottschalk, Steve Mercer (Rockville, Md./The Heights School), and Mike Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck) rolled to a victory with a time of 3:23.29.
The Spartans had five second place finishes in the win. McLennan finished behind Hilt in the 50 free as he recorded a time of :23.42. Mercer was the runner-up in the 200 IM as he finished just .21 seconds back of Demarest with a time of 2:08.56.
Arnold finished second in the 200 fly with a time of 2:13.94 while Matt Kempel (Millington, Md./Queen Anne’s County) clocked in with a time of 5:19.06 in the 500 free as he was the runner-up to Yeager.
Freshman Tyler Ziegler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) was York’s final runner up as he was second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:32.12.
The Spartan 400 medley relay “B” team also earned a second place finish for York.
The Green and White returns to action on
Saturday, November 21 when they travel to St. Mary’s to face
the Seahawks in a Capital Athletic Conference meet.
The meet is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
