ST. MARY’S CITY, MD – The York
College men’s swim team opened up the 2009 Capital Athletic
Conference Championships Friday from St. Mary’s College of
Maryland. The Spartans, who broke two school records in the
meet’s first day, turned in a pair of second-place
finishes.
Matt Jennings (Fairfax,
Va./Robinson), Steven Tobin (Estell Manor,
N.J./Holy Spirit), Clark Arnold (York,
Pa./Northeastern), and Jack Gottschalk (Forest
Hill, Md./Fallston) notched both a second-place finish and
a school record in the 400 medley relay. The foursome clocked a
school-best 3:34.22 in the event, as their efforts resulted in
second-team All-CAC honors.
The Spartans also grabbed the runner-up
position in the 200 freestyle relay. Ben Hilt (Mt. Joy,
Pa./Hempfield), Arnold, Gottschalk, and Jennings touched
the wall in a combined 1:27.21 to garner second-team All-CAC
accolades.
Individually, Gottschalk added to his
tremendous freshman season with a school record 4:46.25 in the 500
freestyle, taking fifth in the event.
Jennings posted a fourth-place finish in the 50
freestyle, clocking in at 22.00.
The CAC Championships continue tomorrow from
St. Mary’s City, Md. The morning session will include the
preliminaries for the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100
breaststroke, and 100 backstroke. The evening session will hold the
finals for each of these events in addition to the 200 medley and
800 freestyle relays.
