ELIZABETHTOWN, PA-The York College men’s
swim team improved to 3-0 as they picked up a 166-33 victory at
Elizabethtown College on Wednesday night in a non-conference meet
in Elizabethtown, PA.
The Spartans won eight of the nine individual events and both
relay races to cruise to the win.
Sophomore Steve Yeager (Sinking Spring,
Pa./Wilson) got the Spartans started with a win in the
1000 free as he recorded a time of 10:38.39. After the Blue Jays
got their lone win, a Chris Miller victory in the 200 free,
sophomore Ben Hilt (Mt. Joy, Pa./Hempfield) won
the 50 free, touching the wall in a time of 23.04. Freshman
Jack Gottshcalk (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston)
followed Hilt with a win in the 200 IM as he had a time of
2:06.90.
Junior Andrew Demarest (Galloway, N.J./Abesegami)
notched a win in the 100 fly, completing the race in a time of
56.34. Freshman Brian Shaffer (Schnecksville,
Pa./Parkland) posted a win in the 100 free with a time of
51.63. Senior Chris Suehr (North Irwin,
Pa./Norwin) kept the Spartan express rolling with a win in
the 100 back, as he touched the wall first in a time of 59.88.
Freshman Alex Diehl (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J.
Roberts) won the 500 free with a time of 5:11.89 while
Yeager picked up his second win of the night with a victory in the
100 breast stroke with a time of 1:05.37.
The Spartans won both relays as the 200 medley relay team of Hilt,
Yeager, Richard Janosky (Dover, Pa./Dover), and
Shaffer combined to post a time of 1:45.00. The 200 free relay team
of Demarest, Mike Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J./Colts
Neck), Suehr, and Garrett Higgins (Yardley,
Pa./Pennsbury) rolled to the win in the time of
1:33.83.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel
to Fredericksburg, VA. The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:00 pm.
