YORK, PA – York College head men's soccer coach Evan Scheffey has announced that the Spartan men's soccer program will sponsor a "Week of Giving" from August 21-25. The week of giving corresponds with the start of the Spartans' pre-season practice schedule.
The week allows Spartan alumni, parents, fans and friends of the program to make a financial impact on the men's soccer program.
"We have been very blessed as a program to receive tremendous support from so many different people during my time at York," said Scheffey. "We have built a pretty incredible network of alums and families who have always been supportive of what we are trying to accomplish as a program."
Scheffey hopes to use the funds to enhance the men's soccer recruiting budget, supplement travel equipment for the players, and provide his players with an overall first class experience.
"I feel like we are in position to challenge for a Capital Athletic Conference championship this year with a team that is very young. We have a group of players who have high character, are hard working, and are willing to put in the time and effort to become a championship squad."
The Week of Giving kicks off the men's soccer campaign as the players come back to campus on Friday, August 18. Practice officially starts the following day at Graham Field. York opens the season on Saturday, September 2 with a game against Carroll (Wisconsin) at the Catholic University Tournament. The Spartans face the host Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
The men's soccer week of giving is in conjunction with the Spartan Advance, York College's official athletic booster club. Spartan Advance boasts over 900 members and is a driving force in our efforts to rise above and to build and maintain a thriving, contemporary intercollegiate athletic program, the Spartan Advance provides enhancements to our recruiting, travel and equipment budgets, and contributes to the support of additional coaching positions.
