Four Spartans Earn All-Region Accolades; York Finishes in the Top 15 in Both National Polls

York, Pa. – The four-time Capital Athletic Conference champion York College men's soccer team recently received more post-season accolades. Four Spartan players have been selected to the 2012 NCAA Division III Men All-South Atlantic Region teams as announced by the NSCAA recently. York had more selections than any other school in the region.

Junior defender Aaron Beale (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and senior forward Antonio Bua (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) earned first-team accolades, while senior midfielder Justin Facer (Prospect Heights, Ill./North Allegheny) garnered second-team honors and senior goalkeeper Jesse Derksen (York, Pa./Susquehannock) was selected to the third-team. All four players were also either first- or second-team All-CAC selections.

Derksen was outstanding in goal this season. His .559 goals against average is 16th best in the nation and his save percentage of .845 is good for 29th in Division III play. It is Derksen's second All-South Atlantic Region selection. He ends his York career with 154 saves in four seasons and a final save percentage of .837.

Facer, a first-team All-CAC selection, grabs his first All-Region team selection in his senior year. Facer contributed two goals and two assists this year for the Spartans. Facer started every game for the Spartans and was a consistent force in the middle of the field. He ended his Spartan career with eleven goals and five assists for 27 points.

Beale, debuting on the All-Region team, also started every game this year. The leader in the Spartans defensive ranks, he led the team to shutout their opponents in exactly half of their games. The 12 shutouts were 28th in the nation. The team's goals against average was an even higher rank; the Spartans ranked 18th in goals against average. As a junior, he will look to lead the Spartan defense again in 2013.

Bua earned his second All-South Atlantic Region team selection. He led the Spartan offense with ten goals this season including two game winning goals. Bua ends his career with 28 goals and 11 assists for a total of 67 points. Bua led an offense that ranked 14th in the nation in total goals with 59 for the season.

The Spartan men finished the season with an 18-2-4 record and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Division III tournament before losing in penalty kicks to eventual national champion Messiah College.

York closed out the season ranked eighth in nation in the D3soccer.com Poll and 12th in the NSCAA Poll. The Spartans made their eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, building on their York College athletic department team record.
