Saberton Named CAC Offensive Player of the Week
York College freshman men's soccer player Brendan Saberton (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on September 2, 2012.
Saberton made a significant impact in his first two collegiate games as the Spartans went 2-0 and won the 2012 Joe Pombriant/CNU Classic for the fifth time. The Spartans defeated Virginia Wesleyan 5-1 in the opener and then downed host Christopher Newport 2-1 on Sunday.
Saberton tallied the Green and White first goal of the season as he scored just 3:41 into his first collegiate action. Saberton's tally came at the 31:47 mark of the first half and enabled the Spartans to tie the game before York eventually won the game going away.
In Sunday's match up with #13 CNU, Saberton again made his presence felt immediately as he subbed into the game at the 21:01 mark and scored his first goal of the game at 27:59. He wasted little time in pushing the lead to 2-0 when he picked up a second tally just over six minutes later as the Green and White took a lead they would not lose.
Saberton's scoring was made more impressive by the fact that he scored his three goals on just four shots in the two contests.
Saberton and the Spartans return to action when they host the Holiday Inn Conference Center Classic at Graham Field on Saturday and Sunday.
