Kavanagh Named CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

YORK, Pa. - Following a quality week in the Spartan net, York College men's soccer goalkeeper Ethan Kavanagh has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Against #1 Messiah last Wednesday, Kavanagh posted a season-high eight saves for the Spartans to keep the Green and White in the match. Despite the 2-1 defeat, Kavanagh posted a tremendous showing, highlighted by a first-class full-layout save and hold on a Messiah free kick in the second half.

On Saturday, Kavanagh helped the Spartans get back into the win column as York tallied a 2-0 triumph over CAC foe St. Mary's (Md.). Kavangh and the York defense held St. Mary's (Md.) scoreless, on only seven shots, over the 90 minutes of action. In the victory, the senior goalkeeper notched four saves for his second shutout of the 2011 season.

For the year, Kavanagh has played just over 618 minutes between the pipes and sports a .767 save percentage.

Kavanagh and the Spartans now turn their attention to Wednesday's league match at Stevenson. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm in Owings Mills, Md.
