  • Spartan Men Capture Third Straight CAC Men's Commissioner's Award

    For the third consecutive year, the York College Spartans captured the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Commissioner’s Award as announced by the conference office recently. The Spartans, after winning the award outright in the last two years, shared the title with Salisbury this season as both teams accumulated 86 points for the year.
  • Gill and Good Receive NSCAA Scholar All-Region Honors

    The York College men’s soccer program received great news this winter as seniors Mike Gill and Trey Good were recognized for their academic performance as well as their on field success. Named to the honorable mention list of NSCAA Scholar All-Region squad, Gill and Good mark the first time in the history of the program that Spartans received such an honor.
  • York College Announces Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2012

    The York College Athletic Department, in conjunction with the York College Alumni Office, is proud to announce the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2012. This year’s class is comprised of men’s basketball player Dave Martins, women’s cross country runner Beth Ann Hooper and men’s soccer forward Matt Shealer. The class is the 22nd in the hall’s history and the three honorees bring the total number of former Spartan standouts enshrined to 79.

    The York College men’s soccer team received outstanding news Thursday as junior forward Antonio Bua was selected to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region squad. For his efforts this season, Bua was chosen to represent the Spartans on the third team.

    With Taylor Brummitt’s third-minute tally, the York College men’s soccer team captured the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Tournament Championship with a 1-0 victory over host #17 Salisbury Saturday afternoon. The Spartans, who improve to 11-5-5, win their third straight CAC title and gain the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Sea Gulls drop to 13-3-3 on the season.

    The York College men’s soccer team ended Wednesday’s game at North Carolina Wesleyan just like they have four other times this season as they tied the Bishops 0-0 in 110 minutes in Rocky Mount, N.C. The Spartans end the regular season 8-5-5 while the Battling Bishops are now 6-4-5.

With the victory, the Spartans move to 8-5-4 on the season including a 4-1-3 mark in league play. The Blazers fall to 3-10-1 and 0-7-1 in conference action.

The Spartans snagged two away wins last week, besting non-conference foe Gettysburg 1-0 in an under-the-lights match October 19 before topping Frostburg St. 3-1 in a Saturday CAC tilt.

However, unlike their previous two results, this time the Spartans came away from the contest with a win as they posted a solid 2-0 victory over St. Mary’s College in Capital Athletic Conference play on a brilliantly beautiful Saturday afternoon in York. The Spartans, who lost their previous two games in heartbreaking fashion, put together a very workmanlike effort in defeating the Seahawks.
