YORK, PA – The York College men’s soccer squad
begins the 2010 campaign carrying a #8 ranking into the year.
“We are excited to begin this season,” Spartan head
coach Mark Ludwig said as he enters his 12th season at the helm of
the program. “To enter the year as one of the top-ranked
teams in the country brings expectations but at the same team it
adds a great deal of excitement.”
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)
released their 2010 preseason poll earlier this month and has put
York as the eighth best team in the nation. However, the Spartans
will not have an easy road ahead of them as they are scheduled to
face six squads who are also listed in the preseason top-25 during
their regular-season slate. Included in those teams are #1 Messiah,
the reigning national champion, #10 Johns Hopkins, #15 Stevens
Tech, and Capital Athletic Conference rival #20 Salisbury.
The Green and White officially kick-off their 2010 campaign on
September 1 against Susquehanna University in Millville, Pa. York
will square-off with the Crusaders in a 7:00 p.m. contest at
Millville High School’s Millard C. Ludwig Field – a
stadium named after Coach Ludwig’s late father.
(Note: The NSCAA compiles their preseason poll based upon last
season’s final rankings.)
