YORK, Pa. - York College men's soccer student-athletes Mike O'Connell and Cody Pearson have been selected as Capital Athletic Conference Co-Offensive and Co-Defensive Players-of-the-Week. York put together a solid 2-0 performance last week, as both wins were clean sheets. Salisbury's Mike Napolitano and Justin Lambert were also recognized for their efforts.
On the week, the Spartans secured both of their CAC victories on the road as they topped Mary Washington 2-0 on Wednesday and then bested Wesley by a 3-0 result Saturday evening.
O'Connell tallied a pair of goals over the week, increasing his season total to four. Against the Eagles in the midweek match, the senior forward scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute. Then on Saturday, O'Connell notched an insurance goal for the Green and White in the 82nd minute of play. On the year, three of O'Connell's four tallies have come against CAC opponents.
Pearson helped lead the Spartans to two shutouts as York has now kept a clean sheet in eleven contests this season. In his first season as a regular in York's first eleven, the left back brings a toughness and composure to the Green and White defense. Over the week, the Spartan defensive unit only allowed eight shots in each conference tilt.
O'Connell, Pearson, and Spartans now look toward Wednesday afternoon, October 20, as they welcome Gettysburg to Graham Field for a 4:00 pm non-conference match. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, that tilt is slated to be the men's soccer team's first "Give Cancer the Boot" game in which the Spartans will don pink warm-up shirts and pink arm bands. T-shirts will be sold during the event with all profits going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
