Derksen Named CAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week
YORK, Pa. - York College sophomore goalkeeper Jesse Derksen was named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player-of-the-Week as released by the conference office earlier today.
Derksen and the Spartans posted a 2-0 week, topping Lynchburg and conference foe Frostburg by 3-0 and 1-0 results, respectively.
At Lynchburg on Wednesday, the sophomore made four saves over
his 80:48 of work to help the Green and White to their four
straight clean sheet. Then against Frostburg at home on Saturday,
Derksen registered his fifth shutout of the season making a pair of
saves during his 90 minutes.
The Spartans, who have won five straight, have recorded eight clean sheet victories this season including each of their five consecutive triumphs.
Derksen, who was also named the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week, has played goal for 1040:06 minutes of York's 1102:23 of game action and sports an impressive 0.43 goals against average.
His selection as the conference's Defensive Player-of-the-Week, comes on the heels of center back Adam Good receiving the same honor just one week ago while midfielder Mike Gill was chosen for the accolade on September 8.
Derksen will look to help the Spartans stretch their win and shutout streak to six as the Green and White travel to Messiah on Tuesday, October 5. York battles the 10th-ranked Falcons, the 2009 NCAA Division III National Champions, at 7:00 pm in Grantham, Pa.
