Derksen Selected as Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week
YORK, Pa. – York College men's soccer sophomore
goalkeeper Jesse Derksen has been selected as the latest Spartan
Athlete-of-the-Week following a pair of clean sheets in two Green
and White victories last week.
Derksen, who has played exceptionally well throughout the 2010
campaign, posted two shutouts last week as York bested Lynchburg
3-0 on Wednesday before blanking Capital Athletic Conference foe
Frostburg State 1-0 on Saturday.
Against the Hornets during the mid-week match, the sophomore
collected four saves over his 80:48 of work. Furthermore,
Derksen's organization of the Spartan back line helped the
Green and White only allow 11 shots, five of which came during the
game's final 13 minutes.
On Saturday, Derksen posted yet another clean sheet as he and the
Spartan defense held the Bobcats at bay throughout the 90 minutes
– only allowing a total of six shots. He made two saves on
the afternoon in aiding the York side to their fifth straight
victory.
Additionally, each of those five consecutive triumphs has come via
defensive shutouts as the Spartans have not allowed a goal in their
last 477 minutes of action.
On the season, Derksen has collected five shutouts while manning
the goal for 1040:06 minutes of York's 1102:23 of game
action.
Derksen will look to stretch that win and shutout streak to six as
the Green and White travel to Messiah on Tuesday, October 5. York
battles the 10th-ranked Falcons at 7:00 pm in Grantham, Pa.
