YORK, PA-For the second straight
weekend, the York College men’s soccer squad has been
selected to host four teams in the 2009 NCAA Division III
Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament. The Spartans will host
Williams, Christopher Newport, and Stevens Institute on Saturday,
November 21 and Sunday, November 22. York faces Williams at 11:00
am followed by Christopher Newport and Stevens facing off at 1:30
pm. The two winners advance to the regional final on Sunday
at 1:00 pm with a berth in the Final Four on the line. The Final
Four will be held in San Antonio, TX on December 4 and 5.
The Spartans earned their spot in the Sweet 16 courtesy of a 6-0 win over Cazenovia on Saturday and a solid 2-0 win over Amherst on Sunday. The Ephs from Williams advanced to the regional semifinals with a 3-0 win over Husson on Saturday and a 1-0 win over RPI on Sunday.
Christopher Newport and Stevens are both familiar with Graham Field as both squads played the Spartans in York earlier in the year. The Captains downed Cabrini 4-0 before tying Lynchburg 1-1 on Sunday. Christopher Newport advanced to the regionals when they outscored the Hornets 4-3 in the shootout. The Ducks from Stevens posted a 2-0 win over York (N.Y.) in the opening round followed by a 4-0 romp over top-seeded Montclair State on Sunday in Upper Montclair, N.J.
The Spartans have advanced to the Elite Eight in two of the last three seasons. They have been selected to host NCAA Tournament action at Graham Field in three of the last five years. The Spartans hosted in 2006, 2008, and now twice in 2009. The last time the Spartans hosted a four-team regional, Wheaton (Ill.) advanced to the Final Four with a shootout win over York in 2006.
The Spartans have played four of the teams remaining in the draw as they defeated Messiah and Stevens, tied Johns Hopkins and lost to Christopher Newport. Three of those four matches were played at Graham Field with the only road game occurring against Hopkins in Baltimore.

The NCAA has established ticket prices for
all tournament matches. Adults (18 to 59) are $6.00 while senior
citizens (60 and up), York College students with a valid ID, and
children ages 13 through 18 are $3.00. Children ages 3 through 12
are $2.00 while children under 3 are free. Saturday’s tickets
are good for both contests while Sunday’s match requires a
As the York College athletic department has done in the past, the first 200 York College students with ID are free, compliments of the athletic department. There will be two days of presale when tickets may be purchased prior to Saturday. Tickets will be on sale on Thursday, November 19 and Friday, November 20 at the front desk of the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The tickets will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on both days. The gates will open one hour prior to the start of the first contest on both Saturday and Sunday for those who did not buy presale tickets. Presale tickets for Sunday’s match will be Saturday evening at the Grumbacher Center front desk from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
York College students wishing to get one of the 200 free tickets must show their ID and they are allowed just one ticket per ID. Once those 200 tickets are exhausted, students will need to purchase tickets at the $3.00 face value. The York College student tickets may be picked up in person only.
