YORK, PA - York College men's soccer freshman Antonio Bua (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) has been selected as the latest Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for the span of November 9-15.
The Spartan rookie posted a fantastic weekend as he recorded a trio of goals, including both game-winners, in York's two victories to begin the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
Against Cazenovia in the first round, Bua began the Spartans' offensive splurge in the 12th minute as he knocked home a headerfor the match's opening score. The Green and White would go on to tally five more times in the match, including another by Bua in the 33rd minute, to secure the 6-0 victory.
In Sunday's second-round tilt with Amherst, Bua again tallied the game-winning score - this time in the 30th minute. Bua collected a short pass from Kemal Nuspahic (East Petersburg, Pa./Warwick) at the top of the box before quickly slotting York's first goal of the game into the right-side netting. Nuspahic would go on to notch the other score in the second half as the Spartans advanced with the 2-0 triumph.
Bua has registered seven goals this year, tying him for the third-highest total on the squad, as he has become one of the Spartans most dangerous attacking players.
With their two wins this weekend, the Green and White advance to the NCAA Sweet 16. The Spartans have been chosen as the host site for the sectional rounds with play beginning on Saturday, November 21. York will take on Williams while Christopher Newport will tussle with Stevens.
