Marks Recognized as NCAA Statistical Champion
YORK, PA - York College senior men’s
soccer player Kyle Marks (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury)
was recognized at tonight’s Capital Athletic Conference
women’s basketball semifinal for his outstanding season as
York’s starting goalkeeper. Marks posted the best goals
against average and save percentage in all of NCAA Division III for
the fall 2008 campaign.
“What a great accomplishment for
Kyle,” Head Coach Mark Ludwig said.
“He was an outstanding leader for us and his play was nothing
short of brilliant all year.”
Marks, a four-year starter and two-year
captain, compiled an NCAA Division III best 0.131 goals against
average in 2008 as he incredibly only allowed two scores in his 18
games and over 1,300 minutes played. Marks also led the country in
save percentage with a superb mark of .949. He was a main reason
why the Spartans posted the NCAA’s top team goals against
average of 0.15, the best team save percentage of .944, and most
importantly the top shutout percentage of 0.85.
The senior leaves an indelible mark the
Spartan program as he is arguably the best goalkeeper to have ever
worn the green and white. For his career, Marks posted an
impeccable 0.57 goals against average, ranking him first all-time
among York goalkeepers. Marks, who appeared in 90 games for the
Spartans, accumulated 74 wins against only five losses and nine
ties, to go along with a remarkable 26 shutouts in his 7,370:27
between the pipes. The most decorated goalkeeper in Spartan
history, Marks was the 2005 CAC Rookie-of-the-Year, has been named
to the all-conference squad three times, and was selected as the
South Region’s top goalkeeper in both 2006 and 2008.
Additionally, he is one of only four Spartans to have been to the
NCAA tournament in each of his four seasons in the green and
white.
The Spartan men’s soccer players,
coaches, staff, and administrators congratulate Kyle on his
remarkable achievements both this year and throughout his
spectacular career and wish him the best of luck in his future
endeavors.
