Jim Griffin is entering his fourth year at the helm of the York College men’s lacrosse program. Griffin led the Spartans to a school-record five wins in his first season. His second year brought double the success as the green and white went 11-5 and 4-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Both marks were school records as the green and white continue to climb the ladder in the CAC.
Griffin is in his seventh year of involvement in the men’s lacrosse program at York, after playing collegiately at Division II Limestone College in Gaffney, SC. He served his first three seasons as York’s defensive coordinator as well as goalies’ coach. As an assistant and now the Spartans’ head coach, Griffin’s tireless efforts on the recruiting circuit have allowed the green and white to bring in a number of top-notch classes. Going into the 2008 season, the Spartan mentor is pleased with where the York program is headed.
“We have been able to build a program that is highly competitive with the elite teams in our conference and our region,” Griffin said. “That, in tandem with the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center and Kinsley Field, will enable us to continue to grow and develop as a program. I am very excited about the direction we are heading as a program.”
In addition to his collegiate coaching duties, Griffin has worked numerous summer camps including Princeton, Washington College, Great Atlantic, and York’s “Turn and Burn.” Griffin was also a guest speaker at the 2006 U.S. Lacrosse National Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
“I feel that my coaching experiences allow me to be a head coach with understanding of all the aspects of running a quality program,” Griffin said. “I have been around the game my entire life and have accumulated a plan of how I want to run the program. Our program has quickly established itself as a great destination for talented men’s lacrosse players.”
