YORK, PA – York College junior attack Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) earned Capital One Academic All-District honors as released by CoSIDA on Thursday afternoon.
Hutson earned honors on the ten player At-Large District Four squad. He was the only men's lacrosse player in District Four to earn the honor. He was joined on the squad by two wrestlers, one golfer, three tennis players and three swimmers. District Four includes all Division III schools in the state of Pennsylvania.
Hutson owns a 3.87 GPA as a marketing major at York. He is a five-time member of the York College Dean's List.
Hutson led the Spartans to a school-record 16 wins as the Green and White earned a berth in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game for the first time in school history. The Spartans also earned their first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
Hutson finished the season with 65 points on a team-high 52 goals and 13 assists. He notched nine man-up goals and drilled home four game-winning goals.
Hutson's name is all over York's record books as he is the programs' all-time leading scorer with 210 points on a school-record 161 goals and 49 assists. He has a school-record 21 man-up goals.
He was named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference first team for the third consecutive year. He led the CAC in goals scored for the second consecutive year while he ranked sixth in points scored.
Spartan head coach Brandon Childs is pleased to see Hutson get rewarded for his academic achievement.
"Obviously Tyler is a very accomplished player," says Childs. "However, he also sets a high standard in the classroom. He exemplifies the type of player we want in our program. Tyler gets it done in the classroom and also on the field."
Hutson now advances to the national vote where he will have an opportunity to be a national Academic All-America team member. That national squad will be announced on Tuesday, June 3.
Hutson will headline a strong core of returning players for the Spartans next year. Seven of York's top nine scorers and all but one defensive starter are slated to return in 2015.
