Spartan Men's Lacrosse Unveils 2014 Schedule

YORK, PA – York College men's lacrosse coach Brandon Childs announced the Spartan's 2014 schedule on Tuesday, complete with seven home games, and a season opener against the defending Division III National Champions, Stevenson University.

The 17 game schedule is highlighted by five teams that were nationally ranked in the 2013 season, five out of conference games against the perennial power Centennial Conference, and two new conference opponents in Christopher Newport and Sothern Virginia University.

"I am really excited about the schedule that we have been able to put together for the 2014 season. When it is all said and done, we feel that our non-conference games will prepare us for a tough conference run in the CAC," said Childs, who enters his third season at the helm of the York College program.

The Spartans begin their 2014 campaign against Stevenson University on February 15 in Owings Mills, Md. The last time these two teams met, Childs was in his first year at York and the game ended in a tough 7-5 loss for the Spartans.

"In order to be the best you have to play the best and you have to beat the best. Coach Cantabene has done a great job with the Stevenson program and we are excited by the challenge of opening with 2013's best team."

York then travels to Muhlenberg College and Franklin & Marshall, two Centennial Conference teams that were both on the 2013 schedule. York's home opener on March 1 will be against another Centennial Conference school, McDaniel College. The Spartans were 8-1 at home last season and they look to continue that success at home against the Green Terror.

York opens their conference-play at home against Mary Washington University on March 15 followed by national powerhouse Salisbury University on March 22.  Following the game against Salisbury, the Spartans head back out on the road for three straight as they travel to Eastern University, Marymount University, and Frostburg State.

The Spartans wrap up their regular season schedule in the month of April with games against Southern Virginia University, Ursinus College, Wesley College, St. Mary's, and Christopher Newport.

"We are thrilled with our returner's effort over the last several months and with a great group of incoming guys, we are eager to face such a demanding schedule. I wish it all started tomorrow."

The Spartans finished 2013 with a school-record 13 victories as the Green and White advanced to the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals before falling to eventual champion St. Mary's by a single goal.

Childs returns 10 of his 11 double figure scorers from 2013 including Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year and second team All-American Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).
