Hutson and Abney Named the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week
YORK, PA - York College men's lacrosse players Tyler Hutson (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) swept the weekly Capital Athletic Conference weekly awards as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. Hutson was named the offensive player of the week while Abney picked up the defensive player of the week award as the Spartans picked up a pair of key CAC wins during the week.
Hutson was named the offensive player of the week for the second time this year as the sophomore attack, and the reigning CAC Rookie-of-the-Year, tallied seven goals and two assists for nine points in the Spartans picked up two key CAC wins. In the win over Frostburg on Wednesday, Hutson recorded three goals and an assist as the Spartans picked up an 11-4 win. In the key Saturday showdown at Mary Washington, Hutson tallied a match-high five points on four goals and an assist. His third goal of the day gave him 100 career goals in just his 31st collegiate game. Hutson is just the fourth York College men's lacrosse player to reach 100 career points.
Abney was fantastic in picking up a pair of wins as the freshman earned the defensive player of the week award for the second time during the year. Abney began his week with 17 saves in the Wednesday win over Frostburg as he limited the Bobcats to just four goals. He followed that up with a 16-save performance in the road win at UMW. He finished the week with 33 saves and a 71.7% save percentage.
The Spartans are just one of four teams nationally with 12 wins or more. The 12 wins are a school record for the Green and White as they will close out their regular season on Saturday with a trip to St. Mary's College to face the Seahawks in a key CAC contest. The winner of the game will be the second seed in the upcoming CAC tournament.
