YORK, PA – York College men's lacrosse freshman attack Andrew Gamble (Easton, Md./Easton) has been selected by Inside Lacrosse Magazine as a "Top Freshman" in their Division III news and notes section.
Gamble has been fantastic for the Spartans this year as he has posted 36 points on 22 goals and 14 assists in 12 games. Gamble's statistics are a bit skewed as the freshman played limited minutes in the first five games of the year before breaking into the scoring column in the loss to Salisbury.
After the Salisbury game, Gamble was inserted into the starting lineup and has responded by scoring 21 goals and 14 assists in those six games. Gamble recorded a career-high five goals in the March 20 win over Marywood and then established a school-record with six assists in the March 26 win at Misericordia.
Gamble has done his damage with efficiency as he has scored his 22 goals on just 36 shots with 27 of those attempts coming on target.
Gamble's 22 goals ties him for fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference while his point total also ranks him fourth. Gamble's assist total is currently seventh in the conference.
Gamble certainly isn't the only Spartan that could have been highlighted on the list as goalie Caleb Abney (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) has been fantastic since earning the Spartans' starting job. Abney is 6-2 in his eight games as he boasts a 6.34 goals against average and a .662 save percentage in 426 minutes of action.
Abney ranks first in the CAC in save percentage while he is second in goals against average.
The Spartans begin the home stretch of their regular season on Saturday when they play the first of four conference games to end the campaign. The Spartans host Marymount University at Kinsley Field at 1:00 pm.
