Hutson Tallies Career-High Eight Points in Spartan CAC Victory

YORK, Pa – The York College men's lacrosse team defeated Hood College 11-5 Wednesday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference contest at Kinsley Field in York. With the victory, the Spartans improve to 7-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play while the Blazers fall to 3-11 overall and 1-5 in CAC contests for the 2012 campaign.

The Green and White wasted no time getting things started as they controlled the game from its inception, scoring four goals in the first quarter of play alone. Freshman attack Tyler Hutson led the charge tallying two of his five goals and providing an assist in that time frame. Senior captain B.J. Blaker notched an unassisted effort at the 3:00 mark while fellow senior Jimmy Langton tallied with just one second remaining on the first quarter clock.

The Blazers cut the lead to 4-1 in the middle of the second quarter as Alex Engler's put the visitors on the board 6:50 remaining in the first half. York responded swiftly however, as Blaker notched his second goal of the day of a pass from Tyler Davis just two minutes later. Ending the half with their sixth tally, Marcus Coppola found Hutson for his third goal of the game as the Spartans entered the locker room with a commanding 6-1 halftime lead.

York continued to control the tempo on both sides of the field throughout the second half. The Green and White recorded the only two goals of the third stanza as Hutson assisted on Justin Aita's first goal of the game five minutes into the half before finding the back of the net himself with 6:29 remaining in the period.

The final period started the same way the third quarter did as Aita scored off an assist from Hutson just 1:16 into the frame. Less than two minutes later, Seth Krolus found Hutson for his fifth goal of the contest.  The two teams went on to swap goals as the Blazers' Joey O'Hara found the back of the net while Aita matched him with his third goal of the game less than a minute later.

With a commanding lead, many Spartan reserves were able to take advantage of valuable in-game experience as the Green and White closed out the CAC victory.

Hutson's outstanding five-goal and three-assist performance sets a new career record for the young Spartan as he tied career-highs with five tallies and three helpers Wednesday afternoon. The rookie has now posted a team-best 38 goals on the season and currently sits fourth on the season-goals tallied list in program history.

Aita added a trio of goals for the home squad and Tyler Roy went 10-for-18 for York at the faceoff "X" while Hogan Ross caused a trio of turnovers. Goalkeeper Tyler Powell records his seventh win of the season courtesy of six saves over 45 minutes of work. Dylan Heath and Joe Patterson finished off the final frame for the Green and White making two saves each.

Defensively for Hood, James Weger caused five turnovers and collected seven ground balls while Doug Brisbane registered four caused turnovers. Joey O'Hara notched two goals for the Blazers.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, April 14, when they travel to Frostburg State in a CAC matchup. The game is slated to begin at 3:00pm.
