Langton, Blaker Lead CAC Comeback

ARLINGTON, Va. – The York College men's lacrosse team picked up their second straight Capital Athletic Conference victory Wednesday, topping Marymount (Va.) 12-7 in Arlington, Va. With the triumph, the Spartans improve to 5-4 (2-2 CAC) on the season while the Saints fall to 3-6 (0-3 CAC).

After falling behind 3-1 in the first quarter, the Spartans roared back with a tremendous 8-1 run. That effort spanned from Ryan Cassidy's first tally of the season at the 1:22 mark of the first quarter to Corey Cooke's goal with 4:15 remaining in the third quarter. York's 8-1 burst allotted the visitors a 9-4 advantage late into the third frame.

York's second quarter proved a tremendous boost as the Green and White notched five goals in a span of 7:41. Following a goal from Marymount's Eric Martin, the host's lone tally in York's 8-1 run, to open up a 4-2 Saint lead, the Spartans embarked on their string of five second-period tallies. B.J. Blaker, who finished with a game-high three goals, got the Spartans rolling with a goal at the 11:13 mark courtesy of a Seth Krolus assist. John Powell then finished off a Tyler Davis assist, knotting the game at 4-4, before providing the helper to Tyler Hutson on the first of his two back-to-back tallies. Davis then closed the second quarter binge as he found the back of the net off a James Langton assist.

Owning a 7-4 advantage at the break, the Spartans never looked back.

Their 8-1 run extended in to the third quarter as Blaker and Cooke each notched in the frame to give the Green and White a 9-4 lead.

Going into the fourth quarter with a 9-5 advantage, Blaker, Jake Beneke, and Langton all tallied to give York their final 12-goal count.

In total, after falling behind 3-1 in the aforementioned first quarter, the Green and White went on a strong 10-2 run and built their lead to as much as 12-5 on Langton's second goal of the day with 4:52 remaining in the game. After a pair of Marymount tallies, the Spartans came away with the 12-7 league triumph.

For the game, both squads registered 38 shots while York held a slight 27-26 lead in ground balls. Marymount got the better of the face-off "X" as they won 13-of-23 attempts.

Aside from Blaker's three goals, Langton recorded two tallies and two helpers while Hutson also recorded two goals. Hutson currently leads the Green and White with 25 goals on the season while Blaker has 12 and Langton ten.
