Hutson, Aita Tally 11 Points as Spartans Pick up CAC Triumph

DOVER, Del. – Tyler Hutson tallied six points and Justin Aita registered five to lead the York College men's lacrosse team to a 14-9 victory at Wesley in Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the league win, the Spartans move back to the .500 mark at 4-4 (1-2 CAC) while the Wolverines drop to 1-6 (1-2 CAC).

Hutson registered a three goals and a trio of assists to bump his team-leading marks to 23 tallies and 30 points on the season while Aita posted four goals and one assist.

Controlling the game early, the Green and White notched the first six goals of the contest to open up a 6-0 lead on the Wolverines by the 13:56 mark of the second quarter. James Langton began and ended the Spartan run as he recorded both of his goals during the spurt. Langton's first goal of the game came just 2:11 into the tilt as he kicked-off York's 14-goal effort. He then registered the Green and White's sixth tally early in the second quarter.

An active second period for both squads, Langton's goal began a quarter that saw a total of ten tallies in the frame. The Spartans found the back of the net six times over the 15-minute span while Wesley notched their first four tallies. Hutson collected two goals and two assists while Aita tallied three times in the quarter.

Wesley's four-goal effort did cut into York's lead however, as the squads went to the break with the Spartans owning an 11-4 advantage.

In stark contrast to the second quarter, the third period proved substantially quieter as only two goals were registered. Unfortunately for the Green and White, both were from the stick of Wesley's Scott Brozey as the Wolverines were down only five after 45 minutes of play.

The Spartans righted the ship at the beginning of the fourth quarter, notching the period's first three tallies. Aita, B.J. Blaker, and Corey Cooke each added to the York ledger as the Green and White extended their margin to 14-6 with 9:19 remaining in the contest.

The final minutes brought moments of trepidation for the Spartans however, as Wesley recorded three goals in just over a minute to cut the lead to 14-9 York with 6:26 remaining. The Wolverines did find themselves with the ball with less than five minutes left in the contest; however, the Spartans were able to thwart any Wolverine attempt to slash further into the lead and came away with the CAC triumph.

For the game, the Green and White led 39-24 in shots including 24-13 in the first half. York also held the advantage in face-offs 17-10.

Defensively for the Spartans, Ryan Cassidy registered a game-high four caused turnovers while Andrew Thomas and Hogan Ross each caused two.

Wesley had three players tally two goals as Brozey, Joe Donato, and Tim Dougherty each notched a pair. Goalkeeper Matt Ryan made nine saves for the hosts while David Gorski registered three caused turnovers.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday, March 28, as they travel to Marymount (Va.) for a 5:00 pm CAC tilt with the Saints.
