Powell Captures CAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors
YORK, Pa. – York College men's lacrosse goalkeeper Tyler Powell becomes the first Spartan to garner Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors in men's lacrosse this season as he captures the league's defensive accolade for this week.
Powell put together a strong performance for the Green and White during their tight 7-5 loss to #9 Stevenson last Wednesday evening in Owing's Mills, Md. The senior posted a season-high 20 saves against the talented Mustang side as he faced 57 shots and registered a .741 save percentage. Powell's efforts helped the Spartans stay within striking distance throughout the 60 minutes, including going into the fourth quarter knotted at 5-5.
For the season, Powell has started in each of York's six contests, playing 353 of a possible 368 minutes in 2012. Sporting a 7.48 goals against average, the senior netminder has posted a .617 save percentage this season.
Powell and the Spartans return to action on Wednesday, March 21, as they play host to #1 Salisbury in a Capital Athletic Conference tilt. Game time from Kinsley Field is slated for 3:30 pm.
