YORK, Pa. – The York College men's lacrosse team received outstanding news early this week as junior goalkeeper Tyler Powell was chosen as the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Powell was simply outstanding for the Spartan defense as he helped lead the Green and White to a pair of CAC victories last week. York surrendered only three goals over those two contests as they improved to 7-2 and a flawless 3-0 in conference play.
Against Hood in a mid-week contest, Powell registered 12 saves as the Spartans topped the Blazers 9-2. Then in Saturday's tilt against Marymount (Va.), the junior netminder backed up that performance with another stellar effort, registering 14 stops in a 12-1 York triumph.
For the season, Powell has started all nine Spartan games en route to posting an 8.03 goals against average over his 515:44 between the pipes.
The Green and White will look to stay unbeaten in the CAC as they travel to St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday for a 4:00 pm tilt.
