YORK, PA - York College junior golfer Tyler Newton has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Newton won the individual title at the 2017 Montgomery Cup in Downingtown on Saturday. Newton fired a two-round total of 145 as he shot an opening round even-par 72. He then shot a one over-par 73 in the second round on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans finished second as a team as York tied a school record with a first round score of 292. The Green and White finished with a score of 600, four strokes back of team champion F&M.
This past weekend, Newton shot a two-day total of 158 at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Challenge at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, Pa.
For the season, Newton leads the Spartans with a scoring average of 75.7 in his eight rounds this fall.
