GALLOWAY, N.J. – The York College men's basketball team did something they haven't done since the 2016-17 season as they dropped their second straight game in the consolation round of the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament.

The Spartans went cold from the field late and the Neumann Knights took advantage as they captured an 82-77 win in Sunday's consolation round. The Spartans dropped two in a row for the first time since January 25, 2017 when they fell in consecutive Capital Athletic Conference contests against Mary Washington and Penn State Harrisburg. That is a span of 43 games in which York had not lost two in a row.

How It Happened

• York got off to a quick start as they began the contest with a 10-4 run to begin the game. The Knights cut York's lead to two but the Spartans responded by quickly pushing the lead back to eight at 23-15 midway through the half.

• The Spartan lead vacillated between three and seven points over the next seven minutes before Neumann trimmed the lead to one at 32-31. York answered with back-to-back three pointers from Joey Polczynski and Jared Wager to push the Spartan advantage back to seven. The lead was seven when the Knights got a three and a lay-up from Isaiah Wilmore to cut the lead to two. Polczynski canned a three with four seconds left to give York a 43-38 lead at the break.

• The Spartans came out of the break strong as they build their lead to 10 on a Zach Novick three with 15:29 left in the game. The Knights would use the next ten minutes of the game to whittle the Spartan lead little by little until they finally tied the game at 71 with 4:30 left in the game. That was part of a 9-0 run that proved to be too much for York to overcome.

• With the Spartans trailing 78-71, Darin Gordon made a free throw followed by a pair of Jason Bady free throws that cut the Neumann lead to four. After the Knights' split a pair of free throws, Gordon made a three to cut the York deficit to 79-77. Unfortunately, that's as close as the Spartans would get as they struggled to make a big shot down the stretch in dropping their second straight at the loaded tournament.
