YORK, PA –The York College men's basketball team led by head coach Jeff Gamber will be participating in the 2012 Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend in the Spartans' game against Hood on Saturday afternoon.
Gamber and his coaching staff along with the York College community will don sneakers with their suits on Saturday as part of the Spartans' continued involvement in the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
Suits and Sneakers, a national event designed to raise awareness about Coaches vs. Cancer and the importance of cancer prevention and early detection is January 28-29. During that weekend, coaches and coaching staff nationwide will wear sneakers with their suits while coaching games during this weekend to remind college basketball audiences about the many ways people can reduce their risk of cancer, like eating right, exercising, making healthy lifestyle choices, and following the American Cancer Society's recommended cancer screening guidelines. The event was promoted by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society.
Fans may support the cause by texting COACH to 20222 from any wireless phone to make a $5.00 donation toward Coaches vs. Cancer and the fight against cancer. Coaches vs. Cancer participants have raised more than $70 million since 1993 to help fund research and provide information and education about this deadly disease.
The Spartans are encouraging all fans to wear suits and sneakers during Saturday's key conference contest against the Blazers. Tip time from Charles Wolf Gymnasium is set for 2:00 pm.
