Five York College men’s basketball players were named to the 2011-12 NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Honors Court as released by the organization on Wednesday.

Spartan Men Capture Third Straight CAC Men's Commissioner's Award
For the third consecutive year, the York College Spartans captured the Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Commissioner’s Award as announced by the conference office recently. The Spartans, after winning the award outright in the last two years, shared the title with Salisbury this season as both teams accumulated 86 points for the year.

Matt Hunter Named New Men's Basketball and Golf Coach
York College Assistant Dean for Athletics and Recreation Paul Saikia is proud to announce that Matt Hunter has been named the Spartans’ new Head Men’s Basketball and Golf coach. Hunter replaces long-time head coach Jeff Gamber who is retiring after 35 years at the helm of both Spartan programs.

York College senior men’s basketball player Paul Kouvaris participated at the Reese’s NABC Senior All-Star game this past Saturday in Salem, VA. The contest was a part of the Division III Men’s Basketball Championship weekend in the Salem Civic Center.

Kouvaris Continues to Collect Post-Season Awards
York College senior forward Paul Kouvaris (Baltimore, Md./Cardinal Gibbons) picked up a pair of post-season accolades as announced Monday. Kouvaris earned NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) first-team All-Middle Atlantic honors as voted on by the association. He also earned d3hoops.com first-team All-Middle Atlantic accolades as designated by the leading website dedicated to coverage of Division III basketball. The awards continue to pour in for Kouvaris who was named the Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year two weeks ago.

Kouvaris Heading to Salem; Spartan Senior Picked for DIII All-Star Game
York College senior men’s basketball player Paul Kouvaris has been selected to play in the 2012 Reese’s Division III College All-Star Game on Saturday, March 17 at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA. The game will be played as part of the 2012 NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship weekend.

Spartans' Great Run Ends in NCAA Opening Round
The fantastic late-season run by the York College men’s basketball team came to a halt on Friday night in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament as the ninth ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats earned a 72-50 win in Lancaster, PA. The loss not only ended the Spartans’ season but also closed out the storied career of Spartan head coach Jeff Gamber who announced at the beginning of this season that he would retire at the end of the campaign.

Kouvaris and Gamber Honored by the Capital Athletic Conference
York College senior forward Paul Kouvaris was named the 2012 Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year as announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon. Kouvaris earned first-team accolades while teammate, junior guard Julian Watson, earned second-team honors. In addition to Kouvaris earning the Player-of-the-Year award, retiring Spartan head coach Jeff Gamber was named the Coach-of-the-Year.

The Spartans snap a two-game skid as they improve to 14-9 overall and 9-5 overall while the Eagles fall to 16-7 overall and 11-3 in the CAC. York remains tied for third place in the league as they are locked in a tie with Frostburg State.

Clutch free throw shooting lifted the Stevenson University Mustangs to a stunning 75-70 victory over the York College Spartans in Capital Athletic Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday in Owings Mills, MD. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 13-9 overall and 8-5 in the conference. The Mustangs, who are in their last season in the CAC, end their 2011-12 home schedule with a mark of 6-17 overall and 3-11 in the CAC. The Spartans are now in a three-way tie for third place as York, Frostburg State and Wesley are all 8-5 in the league.

The Seahawks improve to 15-6 overall and 9-3 in the CAC while the Spartans have their six-game win streak snapped as they fall to 13-8 overall and 8-4 in the league.

The York College Athletic Department, in conjunction with the York College Alumni Office, is proud to announce the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2012. This year’s class is comprised of men’s basketball player Dave Martins, women’s cross country runner Beth Ann Hooper and men’s soccer forward Matt Shealer. The class is the 22nd in the hall’s history and the three honorees bring the total number of former Spartan standouts enshrined to 79.
